What to Bring?

#mcreds will provide all water, light snacks, journals, and pens.

For Session A, please bring with you:

  • an electronic device to access digital learning materials in class (laptop, iPad, etc)

  • tools, equipment or instruments you utilize in your artistic practice (i.e. guitar, dance shoes, camera, water color and brushes, etc.)

  • any questions about the Pre-Assignment.

For Session B, please bring with you:

  • an electronic device to access digital learning materials in class (laptop, iPad, etc)

  • presentation materials and notes from your Independent Work assignment

Creative Process COHORT CENTRAL

Learning through The Creative Process: Standards-driven Creative Spaces

In-Person Sessions

Participants will explore the connective tissue of the Maryland State Fine Arts Standards and the essential elements of the Creative Process.  Arts Educator and Community Teaching Artists will investigate their own teaching and making methods in an effort to understand their own habits to launch them into a reflective and strengths-based approach to professional learning through #mcreds. This course is a prerequisite for all Level 201 courses.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an endorsement in Learning through The Creative Process and are eligible for 201 courses. Maryland Art Educators are eligible for 1 CPD credit. All #mcreds courses are FREE.

When you arrive, please sign-in at the front desk--the front desk officer may ask for state-issued, photo ID. The front desk officers will direct you to the conference room.

Parking is available at the  Arrow parking garage next door to the MSDE building for $16. Street parking is also available on Park St., W Fairmount Ave, or other nearby streets. If the session is on a Sunday, street parking is free but limited, so please plan to arrive early if you are trying to park on the street.

Alysia Lee

For 2019 Kennedy Center Citizen Artist, Alysia Lee-- her role as an artist, arts educator, teaching artist and arts advocate, give her a broad perspective of the arts ecosystem. Alysia's work has received national recognition for advancing access, equity, visibility, representation, and power-sharing between artists, organizations, and communities.

Dr. Lillian Pailen

Dr. Lillian Pailen has served the arts education field as a teacher and administrator in public school and collegiate settings. She has also served as a specialist with the Maryland State Department of Education Fine Arts Office and draws upon these experiences as a consultant for statewide curriculum/assessment projects. She holds a B.A. degree in music education from Howard University, M.A. degree from Columbia University Teachers College, and doctorate in community college education from George Mason University.
